Double Funk Crunch

Double Funk Crunch” is a 9 piece party band formed in 1997 to serve corporate, private and public clients who desire fun and entertaining dance music for their events. Originally established as a 70’s disco band, they began to perform regularly at many private events, weddings and corporate parties in addition to their club appearances. Double Funk Crunch’s popularity as well as their fan base has grown significantly and the word is out that they are a high energy, fun, party band that has expanded their repertoire to encompass all types of dance music from Big Band to Smooth Jazz, Latin to Hip-Hop, R&B to Blues, and Disco to Rock. Double Funk Crunch’s music spans 30 years of top dance hits from the 70’s to today!

The band is fronted by dynamic blues/jazz vocalist Leah Tysse, powerful rock vocalist Laura (Ms. LA) Kuppinger, and the soulful R&B voice of David (Doc) Robinson. The 3 together are a high energy front line with choreography, outfit changes, and an awesome stage presence that is second to none!

When you back up an awesome floor show and vocals with the likes of musical director and bass player extraordinaire Darryl Anders (Bonnie Hayes, Zigaboo Modeliste, and Tower of Power), jazz pianist and keyboard player Christian Boyd, funk and rock guitarist Jon Kuppinger, and the steadiest groove around by drummer Ron Smith (Legally Blynd, Sista Monica and the Gospel Hummingbirds), you’re on your way to having one exciting party! Double Funk Crunch takes you to the next level by featuring the blazing horn section of veteran saxophonist Vince Lars (Destiny’s Child, Toni, Tone, Tony) and trumpeter Jeff Lewis.

Professional, flexible, dependable, and fun to be around are just some of the words used to describe Double Funk Crunch. Give us a call so you can become a part of the “Double Funk Crunch” experience! Double Funk Crunch was formed back in 1997 by co-band leaders Jon and Laura Kuppinger. The group was started as a wild & crazy costumed club band that played exclusively disco and funk from the 70s. The band became quite popular and successfully rode that rhinestoned wave into the new millennium, bell-bottoms and all. The new Millineum brought a higher level of success for Double Funk Crunch as they began to perform regularly at many private events, weddings and corporate parties in addition to their club appearances. Double Funk Crunch‘s popularity as well as their fan base grew and they became known as a high energy, fun party band that focused on 70s & 80s dance music. They eventually added the talents of vocalist and entertainer David “Doc” Robinson to lead the band on stage. Doc brought with him a broader scope of music and new level of professionalism that gained them success in not only the private sectors, but got them noticed in the casino and county fair circuit, resulting in playing almost every county fair in Northern CA (including the CA State Fair) as well as most of the casinos from Reno to Tahoe to Las Vegas. Fast forward to 2005. Seeking a new opportunity to climb even higher, Double Funk Crunch adapts and matures again and diversifies further musically adding latin, hip-hop, R&B and rock to their well known staple of 70s & 80s dance music. But they didnt do it alone. In 2005 Double Funk Crunch enlisted the aid of Paul Orella to take over the booking and assisting in the business management of the band. Double Funk Crunch gained a new vision with the addition of a new musical director, bassist/producer/songwriter and recording artist Darryl Anders (Bonnie Hayes, Zigaboo Modeliste, and Tower of Power). Darryl brought with him the experience and talents of Vince Lars and Jeff Lewis to create a powerful and dynamic horn section. Keyboardist Christian Boyd adds all the right seasonings to the Double Funk Crunch Party Flavor. The rock steady pulse and groovalicious feel of Ron SnackJackson Smith on the drums keeps the dance floor packed. Topping it all off with the soul stirring blues and r&b influenced vocals of Leah Tysse. Double Funk Crunch enters 2006 with their eyes and hearts wide open on a new mission to bring quality, high-energy entertainment and a positive musical experience to everyone that hears them.
